Treasurer // 2017-2018 Academic Year
My first year in the Pre-Law Club was the result of my friend Jacob saying that I needed to join the club because they needed numbers. It was indeed a small club, but one that had many benefits for sure. My first year (semester) in the club we traveled to Chicago for the LSAC Law School Conference and I was shown how many law schools there were to choose from. We wandered the large hotel and wondered what our future had in store for us. The other club members and students who joined us on that trip were older than I was, so I only knew them for a short period of time and their window of opportunity was closing fast. I saw them jump from booth to booth, trying to figure out what they wanted to do after undergrad. I walked to each school that interested me, since I was only a sophomore at the time, I figured I had a year before I wanted to start my own serious search. I looked at local schools and the big name ones with the prettiest handouts. At that point in time, I was set on going to Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, and their booth even had stickers, so I thought it must be fate! But I was younger then and hadn't looked at the price tag of attending such a school. Overall, the trip to Chicago was something to learn from, and a trip to be enjoyed since I had never been to Chicago in the first place.

My second year in the club handed me the reins and told me to run wild. I did this of course with the notion that my own time was coming to choose a law school and take the LSAT, so it was time for me to buckle down and get serious. In November of 2018, I took three other Drury students to Houston, Texas for the LSAC Law School Conference. Since this was my year and my trip, I knew more school would be at this conference, and this trip would also give me a chance to organize something as real as this. I say real because I had been so accustomed to adults or older students organizing trips like this for me, but now it was my turn. So I booked the flights within our budget, got the hotel rooms, and I made the itinerary. It all sounds so trivial now, but at the time it was nerve-wracking. There was a budget to stick to and with travel prices as high as they are now, I knew I had to be smart. In all, the trip was a success! The other students who joined me were juniors like I was and we were looking to start our own path to life after undergrad. We visited only a few booths that we were seriously interested in, and made the most of our time with those representatives. Leading this group I felt empowered and I was proud of myself for organizing the whole thing. It was a successful trip and I got much more information out of it since it was my own future that I was worried about.

My senior year and third year in the Pre-Law Club will be focused on transferring leadership and giving more LSAT practice sessions. Since the trip to Houston, I have already taken the LSAT, and I'm taking it and a class this fall to boost my scores. With the new Digital LSAT now being given, I will hopefully give lectures on how to take the digital LSAT class and I know the club will be behind me. I can't wait to see where we can go this year for the LSAC Law School Conference, and hopefully younger students will be willing to travel and see what lies beyond Drury.
