Honors CORE 101Diving in head first is my way of doing things. So I wasn't surprised or overwhelmed by jumping into the Drury Honors Association my first semester through CORE 101: The Meaning of Life. This CORE drew me to Drury and the Honors Program because I knew that for a pre-law degree I would need a basis in philosophy and ethics. This class allowed me to explore several theories on what life means from perspectives different from my own. This course challenged me to think outside of my experiences and brought me face to face with the expectations of Drury and the Honors Program.

Honors 205Seeing the course title of Honors 205 for the first time, I laughed. "An entire honors course on humor?" I thought, "What the hell will that be about?" I was in good spirits going into the class because I knew that an honors course was always up my alley. The beginning of this course was incredibly interesting; we studied theories of humor and how comedy developed over the ages and where our sense of humor came from. In the latter half of the semester, we turned our focus to leadership and how to lead groups outside of our comfort zone. I believe that the leadership aspect of this class was the most applicable to early college students because we are coming into this year fresh. For me, I came to Drury from not being very involved in high school, and since then I have thrown myself into many organizations and leadership positions. The leadership skills I learned from the Honors 205 helped me to rise to many positions here on campus.
